What This Church is About
We’re into looking at things from God’s point of view. That’s what Christian Science is all about. We believe God is love, and that that Love is the order and harmony that pervades the universe. Through readings, fellowship, sharing experiences, and a family-like care for each other, we encourage individuals to break from limited thinking and living. We believe that heaven is not a far off thing – it’s within us and all around us. And, our little church proves that all the time. Our readings and experiences demonstrate the possibility and practicality of God being stronger and more influential than materiality, which seems to be the god of our time. We’ve found that starting with the real God – Love, Life and Truth itself – is the only solution for lasting joy and health.
We follow Christ Jesus. We’re into what he taught. We think about him as the clearest example of Christ (God’s idea) that ever lived. We strive to understand and put into practice his profound teachings on compassion, non-judgement, healing prayer, and the true nature of heaven and earth. As a church, we’re all about helping each other and our community learn how to express Christ-qualities in our own lives. Healing for the world starts with experiencing healing in our own lives.
Church Foundation and Mission
This church is one of many Christian Science churches and societies around the world. It is a democratic, self-governing branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, founded by Mary Baker Eddy “to commemorate the words and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Church Manual)
Christian Science is a religion based on the Bible, particularly the teachings and works of Christ Jesus who said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.” (John 14:12) How Jesus was able to accomplish his healing works is explained by Mary Baker Eddy in these words, “Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Savior saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick.”
Christian Science is also a metaphysical system that “enables the learner to demonstrate the divine Principle upon which Jesus’ healing was based.”

If you’re curious about how we use this scientific Christianity in our daily lives, you can hear these ideas developed and explained at our church services, at Christian Science Lectures, and through our Pastor, The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, who established the Christian Science Church more than a century ago. We hold weekly Sunday Services, Sunday School, and a mid-week meeting where we share helpful spiritual ideas and healings we have had. All our services welcome visitors.
Historical Sketch
A small band of spiritual thinkers and seekers have been meeting on the Sunshine Coast since 1955, firstly in Nambour on the veranda of a pineapple farm, at the Buffalo Lodge Hall and in two purpose built churches, on Coronation Avenue and later on Blackall Terrace.
Changing times and needs of both members and our community meant that in 2012 it was decided to relocate to our present shopfront arrangement. Our Church, Sunday School, and Reading Room are now located at our “Church in the Shopfront” at Shops 2/3 Ocean Central, corner of Duporth Avenue and Ocean Street, Maroochydore.
